Queer and trans people are subjected to perpetual violence. We are beaten on the streets for how we look, the way we sound, the partners we take and those we do not. Society takes it upon themselves to make sure we are never comfortable with the endless use of slurs, giving us the only other option of erasure and invisibility. Yet we continue to exist and be visible whilst enduring constant aggression from the state which actively refuses to recognise us as real humans, accept our differences or give any sort of support to those who need it most.
I spent a lot of my life ashamed of my sexuality and my gender. I have increasingly attempted to embrace these defining characteristics of my existence only to be met with the harsh reality that the society I exist in wants nothing less than for me exist. For these reasons it is a constant struggle to not hate myself for things that I had no choice in but that I cannot ignore.
lyrics
This wasn’t a choice
but its my life
I embrace it
learnt to survive
Weve felt the dirt
weve tasted blood
we’ve licked our wounds
where to from here
I leave the house in armour of being
Everything Ignored
or just simply
Torn. Away.

C'est ce degré de magnificence qu'Obsidian Tongue vise dans A Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time. Jordan Vauvert
